Building the Xylotechnia Theater in Peristeri
Cultural
Architectural Design
Greece
A bioclimatic building, in harmony with the natural surroundings, that functions as a theater and as a space of social gatherings
The architectural design and technical support provided lead to an aesthetically pleasing as well as a functional theater.
The basic elements of the design are :
- The creation of a space that does not only function as a theater but as a space of social gatherings as well
- The preservation of the memory of xylotechnia
- The construction of a building that is in harmony and connects with the natural surroundings and the users
- The appliance of basic principles of bioclimatic design
At the entrance and the waiting space of the building we can find certain spaces that assure the comfort of the visitors as well as the adequate function. Those are :
- An info office
- Ticket selling spot
- Lockers
- Refreshment room
Those functions need to be close to one another and near the entrance, ideally on the same level. They are enclosed by a continuous waiting space.
On this level we can find the toilets meant for people with disabilities.
The theater is divided in two main spaces. For the spectators and the actors.
The space of the spectators consists of 3 basic functions :
- The sitting hall
- Waiting spaces for the breaks – foyer
- Toilets
The above functions are divided in two levels due to limited space. On the first level is the sitting area with a capacity of 200 seats, access by two entrances , the foyer. On the second level we can find the toilets and the balcony with a capacity of 80-100 seats.
For the stage area we have :
- The stage and the backstage
- The dressing rooms for the actors
- Auxiliary spaces
There is also a multi-use room with the ability of rearrangement, with the help of moving partitions to define the space. This room is meant for offices, meetings and events up to 100 people.
The parking spaces of the theater are two. One developing underground with the capacity of 40-50 parking spots whilst the second space is outdoor and is meant for big sized vehicles.
The study was executed in 2018.
